Merriam-Webster defines a diva as a famous and successful woman who is very attractive and fashionable. In Brandon, an Everyday Hero is hoping to craft a generation’s worth.

Breanna Adams is the co-founder of a tutoring and mentoring life skills program called DIVA.

“DIVA stands for Divine Individuals with Virtuous Attitudes,” Adams said. “And we really pride ourselves on having girls find values and a foundation for who they are.”

The program started in 2012 and it works with girls between the ages of six to 16 in a three-level program. It includes classes in poise and confidence, life skills, creative arts, science, math and more.

DIVA’s goal is to educate, motivate and inspire young girls to follow their dreams and make them come true.

Breanna is a graduate of the University of South Florida with a degree in elementary education. She set her sights on helping young people.

“We try to become comfortable and familiar with the girls that we work with,” Breanna said. “(We try) to become family with them (and) we really make sure that we take those core values of education, looking at the standards, looking at what is expected for our students and then applying that to real life for our girls to really not only make it concrete, but also to make them to be able to succeed in life beyond the classroom.”
