Laurie Pizzo is running as a Republican for the District 4 seat on the Hernando County Commission.

1. Why are you running for this office?

I am seeking a seat on the Hernando County Commission because I am committed to serving the people of Hernando County.

I have the experience and knowledge of this County to guide us into the future. I have the vision and conservative principals to lead Hernando County as we strive to be in the best possible position while recovering from the economic recession that has stunted our growth over the last six years.

2. Why do you think you are the best qualified candidate for the office?

I am the most qualified candidate because, along with being a Hernando County resident for the last 26 years, I have been active in the Public Policy arena for the Florida Realtors, an active member of community programs that benefit our citizens such as the Dawn Center, Habitat for Humanity, and the American Cancer Society.

I am the immediate past chair for the Florida Commission on the Status of Women. I am also a member of the HCA Oak Hill Hospital Community Advisory Council.

Representing and serving the interests of the citizens of Hernando County is not new to me. It will be an honor to continue that service as your District 4 Hernando County Commissioner.

3. If you are elected, what will be your top priorities?

The number one priority is attracting business and increasing employment opportunities in Hernando County.  In order to do this we must maintain a balanced budget, even if this means looking for ways to reduce spending and hold the line on the taxes.

We must expand our technical and vocational training centers in the county to provide a well-educated workforce for these better paying jobs. I want to loosen the restrictions that over regulate businesses that are considering Hernando County as their destination to prosper while employing some of the best and brightest in a ready-made work force right here at home.

I plan to fight for improvements that will create the infrastructure for businesses to plug in and grow in our back yard. I will champion the conservative values and common sense budgeting that will allow Hernando County residents to reap the benefits of knowing that their tax dollars are an investment in the growth and future of Hernando County’s economic development instead of a means to just make ends meet for Hernando County’s budget.

It is capitalism and entrepreneurship that drive our economy, not government.
