A 19-year-old man without a driver's license died early Wednesday when he crashed his motorcycle into a light pole off Busch Boulevard in Tampa.

Around 12:29 a.m., Max Austin Maza was accelerating away from the traffic signal at Linebaugh Avenue on his 1998 Honda and looking behind him to see if other motorcyclists he interacted with at the light were following.

He then drove off the road and hit the light pole about 20 feet south of the edge of Busch Boulevard, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

Though wearing a helmet, Maza suffered serious injuries. He was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital and pronounced dead at 2:45 a.m.

Deputies say he had no driver's license or motorcycle endorsement.
