A huge early-morning fire swept through a Palmetto home Friday.

According to North River Fire Department, a fire broke out just after 2 a.m. at a home shared by three families near the intersection of 4th Street West and 7th Avenue.

The fire spread fast in the wood-frame, 2-story home, authorities said. Members of two of the three families managed to make it out of the home. The members of the third family are unaccounted for, authorities said.

Officials have not said how many people are in the family.

According to Palmetto Fire Rescue, the fire burned so hot, it melted the siding of a home across the street. It took firefighters about three hours to put the fire out. Crews were concerned with the structure collapsing during the fire.

A search is ongoing for the missing family.

The fire is under investigation.
