The tropical depression in the eastern Atlantic became Tropical Storm Edouard late Thursday night.

According to Bay News 9 meteorologist Diane Kacmarik, the storm is no threat to Florida or the United States.

"Even if it does become a hurricane, it's not going to be near any land," Kacmarik said. "The forecasted track has it remaining in the central Atlantic."

Edouard is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph. A turn toward the northwest at a slightly slower forward speed is anticipated during the next two days. It is still expected to stay over water.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center.
