They may seem like a bunch of tiny rubber bands at first, but when loomed together, they create wearable works of art.

The popular kids craft craze, Loom Bracelets, means a lot to 7-year-old Max Wilford who is battling brain cancer.

It’s Max’s wish that people come together this weekend to make a 100-mile Rainbow Loom chain. It’s called the Maxlove Project.

Learning Express toy stores across the country are participating in this effort this weekend.

The store in Lakewood Ranch was busy with kids helping out.

Mia Schneider, 10, was the first kid in the store. She received an official Maxlove Project loom bracelet and spent the day putting the little bands on a gigantic loom. She says that she wanted to help out because she does not want anyone to have cancer.

“It’s a good thing to do because its not fair that people get cancer and it’s a good thing that people are helping out,” she said.

Bailey Steele, 9, also spent her day looming. She says that she spends a lot of her free time making loom bracelets, but she especially enjoyed this day more then most because she was doing it for a good cause.

“Its nice to help other people,” Steele said.

At the Lakewood Ranch Learning Express, they are hoping kids will loom a mile worth of chain for the Maxlove Project.

The event will continue through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The store is located at 8451 Cooper Creek Blvd.
