Several residential developments that were put on hold during the economic downturn will soon be rising in Haines City.

According to The Ledger of Lakeland, several projects that were in the initial stages of construction in 2008 but were halted are now active again. When completed, the projects, including both houses and apartments, could attract another 4,000 residents.

Here are the major projects, according to The Ledger.

  • Peninsular Ridge, located on the northeast corner of Fifth Street and State Road 544. The subdivision is proposed to have 12 houses, each with a minimum size of 2,100 square feet.
  • Bella Dane Estates, located one mile west of Power Line Road and south of Johnson Road, will be designed to have residential and commercial development. The proposed plans include 80 townhouses, 348 apartments and about four acres for commercial development.
  • Liberty Bluff, located off of Hinson Road and near the intersection of Power Line Road, is proposed to have about 248 apartments plus a pool, clubhouse, children's park, dog park, car-cleaning center and laundry facility.
  • Covered Bridge at Liberty Bluff, located off of Grace Road and 30th Street, includes plans for 950 apartments.
  • Bonnies Landing, located at the intersection of 30th Street and Robinson Road, is  approved for 248 single-family homes, but developers are proposing 1,128 apartments with walking trails, two community centers, two pools, and tennis and bocce ball courts.
  • Balmoral Castle, near Lake Eva, is in the early stages, but plans feature 270 single-family homes within a gated community and recreational amenities.
  • The Resort and Country Club at Lake Charles, near Lake Saint Charles, is proposed to have 558 single-family short-term rental units with recreational activities along the lake and a park.
  • E.R. Jahna Industries also has purchased parts of the Lake Marion Planned Unit Development to expand its sand mining operations, but plans to develop the area for residential units as well as commercial units, The Ledger said.
