A woman was shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy in Homosassa on Saturday.

According to reports, deputies responded to 49-year-old Kela Souter's home on South Alita Terrace around 6 p.m. because she was threatening suicide.

When deputies arrived, Souters allegedly pointed a weapon at a deputy and he felt threatened enough to fire his own gun.

Souters was taken to the hospital where she later died.

The deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard operating procedure.

The Citrus County sheriff said he feels his deputies acted appropriately.
