Sarasota sheriff's deputies said they have found the body of an infant who they believe is that of Chance Walsh.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, the body of the baby was found in North Port. They have not yet confirmed the identity of the baby.

Detectives said they have been searching for 2-month-old Chance Walsh since Oct. 4. The baby has not been seen since Sept. 9.

Investigators got a tip about where the baby might be buried, and detectives said they "confirmed their worst fears." The location where the remains were found was about two miles from his grandparent’s home in a wooded area on Elliot Court.

Friends and family left messages outside the former home of Walsh's parents on Thursday evening.

Teddy bears, posters, and even a baby bib were placed near Chance Walsh's parents' former home on Thursday night.

"I’m a mom and I have a one-year-old son and this kind of thing hurts," said Heather Ayers, who stopped by the memorial.

Chance's parents, Kristen Bury and Joseph Walsh, remain in custody in South Carolina on charges of child neglect with great bodily harm.

Investigators said the parents had given conflicting stories to family members as to what happened to their son, including that he died in a car crash and that they had given him to a stranger in a hotel in Georgia.

A search of the couple's home in North Port revealed small amounts of blood on the bed pillows, comforter and mattress, as well as a blood spatter pattern high on the walls, door, mirror and light fixture, according to documents.

The investigation includes federal authorities, as well as law enforcement in South Carolina and Georgia.

Authorities said there are no other person’s of interest that they are looking for.
