Back on Earth, more specifically, over Tampa Bay, the sky lit up with a spectacular cloud formation caused by the launch. A similar incident happened last month during an Atlas V launch.
Although more people were aware of the launch this time, some people still wanted to know what exactly they saw early this morning in the eastern sky.
Here's the official ULA explanation: The illuminated plume of smoke witnessed in the sky came from the rocket's launch boosters. As the rocket got higher, the smoke trail caught the pre-dawn morning light just right.
Dozens of calls poured into the Bay News 9 newsroom asking if something exploded in the sky.
Rest assured, nothing went wrong with the launch, despite the cloud plume.
