A micro-preemie who spent more than 100 days in the NICU has been discharged from Tampa General Hospital a day before his original due date.

John-Luke Visnovec was born at 23 weeks, weighing one pound, 13 ounces. Now, he weighs just over six pounds.

His parents were thrilled they didn't have to leave the hospital without him, posting this on their Facebook page.

"We are SO excited to say that today is the first day, since John-Luke was born, that we don't have to leave the hospital without him! WE ARE BRINGING HIM HOME!!!! We can't tell you how excited we are and how scared at the same time, but with the knowledge given to us and with God, we can do this!!!!"

His parents will have to be especially watchful the first two years or so of his life.

Sometimes micro-preemies can be more prone to getting colds and other bugs because of a compromised immune system and the tiniest of babies can be slower at reaching developmental milestones.

But the boy's parents say that's a small price to pay to finally take their baby home. They said they'll definitely be back to TGH to visit everyone who helped them on John Luke's journey.
