For anyone planning on traveling during the upcoming holidays, the time to purchase tickets is now.
According to travel website Orbitz, purchasing Thanksgiving and Christmas plane tickets this week can yield the best deals.
Holiday-related flights booked this time of the year can be the most affordable. For Thanksgiving travel, buying flights in late September to early October led to flights that were 5.5 percent less expensive than flights booked the week of the holiday, according to the site.
Meanwhile, Christmas-time flights were 19 percent cheaper than flights booked the week of. And airfare for New Year’s Eve was about 15 percent less expensive.
"You get really good deals, depending the day you fly out and time you fly out," said traveler Dyanna Giles of Brandon. "You can save $100 sometimes or more. You have to research."
Specifically, the website says this week may be the best time to secure a deal for holiday travel as trip research ramps up online and bookings pick up.
"I think they should be thinking about it (booking travel)," traveler Madison Miller said at Tampa International Airport. "I am a really spontaneous person, but I feel like when it comes to holiday travel, I can’t be that spontaneous. There’s a lot of planning and thought that goes into it."
