Temperatures broke records in the area Saturday, especially in Tampa, Lakeland and Sarasota.

Here's what you need to know about the Bay area weather this weekend:

  • The warm and humid weather continue as temperatures will be running 10 to 15 degrees above average through the next several days.
  • Record highs and record high minimums are in jeopardy all week.

The record high in Tampa was broken Saturday, reaching 86 (old record 85 set in 1984). Sarasota-Bradenton Airport broke a record reaching 85, old record 84.  Lakeland also broke a record, reaching 85.

More record highs are expected over the next few days...

Surface high pressure from Bermuda extending west across the Atlantic and into the southeastern U.S. will maintain a warm and muggy southeast wind flow across the area.

Strong high pressure above will keep all storm systems and fronts at bay, well to the northwest into next week.

Adequate low level moisture within the southeast wind flow will continue to support areas of low clouds and some fog late tonight into Sunday morning... although a slight increase in the winds and high clouds will likely favor more low clouds vs. dense fog.

Unseasonably warm and muggy conditions will continue with temperatures remaining some 10 to 15 degrees above normal for this time of the year, with lows tonight in the mid and upper 60s and daytime highs on Sunday again climbing into the lower and middle 80s, with more record high temperatures possible.

A strong upper high just east of Florida will contribute to temperatures continuing to run 10 to 15 degrees above climatic normals.

The upper trough in the southwest U.S. will finally shift eastward, allowing a cold front to push across Florida.  The front will bring scattered showers late in the week.  Much cooler and drier air will advect over Florida over the weekend.
