The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Suncoast have named a new rising star.
Kassindjaa Montague won “Youth of the Year” Tuesday at the non-profit’s annual luncheon at the Hilton Carillon in St. Petersburg.
She and the other four Pinellas County finalists gave speeches and interviews before a panel of judges, including Bay News 9 Anchor Veronica Cintron.
Montague spoke about overcoming obstacles in her life and the positive impact the Ridgecrest Boys and Girls Club in Largo has had on her.
Monday’s win means she moves on to the state competition, which takes place next month.
