It was a retirement party complete with a cake and gifts but the guest of honor made his entrance on four legs!

Deuce is a 10-year-old German Shepherd who's worked at the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office most of his life.

His partner, Deputy Charley Perdomo, said during his law enforcement career, Deuce was involved in nearly 250 criminal apprehensions.

"He's located a large amount of heroin that came into the country one time. He's caught some felons that were just involved in shootings and home invasions and things like that," said Perdomo.

Lately time has been taking a toll.

Deuce has arthritis so the Sheriff's Office decided it was time for him to slow down and retire.

"I'm going to miss going to work and going out there hunting bad guys with deuce. He makes it easy for me. He makes me look good," said Perdomo.

Deputy Perdomo will now start training Deuce's replacement, a "rookie' named Smoke.

"This one is going to be a little bit more of a challenge because he's one of those that looks everywhere. He has lots of energy," said Perdomo.

While Smoke has some big paws to fill, Perdomo said this will give Deuce more time to play with his toys.

"Deuce is going to go home now and he's going to be a family pet. He's going to be retired and playing golf and fishing," he joked.

Deuce will be living with Perdomo and his wife as a pet.
