A Davenport man is accused of hanging a dog from a tree in his front yard.

Victor "Manny" Solano, 29, is facing one count of felony animal cruelty in connection with the death of the 18-month-old pit bull.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Solano asked neighbors for a gun to shoot his dog because it "[made] a mess in the trailer." The neighbors refused, then later saw the dog, now deceased, hanging by its neck from a tree in the yard.

Deputies said Solano then tied the rope to an ATV and drove the ATV, dragging the dog's body behind it, to a nearby pasture, where he disposed of the dog's body in a pond.

Solano was arrested and booked into the Polk County Jail.

Deputies said the dog's body was recovered from the pond and taken to Animal Control.
