Clearwater Beach Patrol has seen an increase in stingray injuries recently.
Approximately 30 people were injured by stingrays on Clearwater Beach since April 6.
Here are some safety tips:
- Do the "stingray shuffle" when entering beach waters. By shuffling your feet in the sand, you will scare off any stingrays that might be around.
- Purple warning flags are used to warn of the danger of stingrays in area waters. Flags are being flown as needed.
- Remember to swim near a lifeguard at all times.
If you come in contact and become injured, see a lifeguard at one of their towers or go to Fire Station #46 at 534 Mandalay Ave.
Those who sustain injuries and see a lifeguard for treatment will be transported to the fire station for monitoring if necessary.
