The Tampa City Council is slated to discuss graffiti today. Or is it art?

The council will discuss that very idea today concerning the various university crew teams' work painted on the sea wall along the Hillsborough River in downtown Tampa.

Teams have been painting their school names and logos along the walls for years. Crew teams from throughout the northeast and Atlantic seaboard train at the University of Tampa and on the Hillsborough River.

A potential agreement on the table would allow for a lease of a portion of the sea wall to Friends of the River - or to other groups looking to preserve the art that is already there.

Legal officials are expected to be on hand as the paintings may or may not be classified under historic preservation.
