A brand new and unlikely business is on its way to Lakeland.

The owners of The Poor Porker food truck said they plan to transform the old gas station on the corner of South Lake Avenue and Main Street into several businesses.

The new business will include a clothing boutique, food truck and a free garden. It's the kind of idea you don't hear too often in Lakeland.

"It's going to be beautiful, free gardens," said Robin Wilson, co-owner of The Poor Porker food truck. "There's going to be a teepee involved, which I'm very excited about."

Wilson said there will also be a Zen garden and a library.

The entire concept is a childhood dream for Wilson, but the quirky new business plan isn't what lifelong Lakeland resident Roshni Patel thinks of when she envisions Lakeland.

"This is not normal at all for something like this to pop up when my friend suggested meeting here," Patel said. "I looked them up on Facebook, and I was, like, no way Lakeland has something like this because this is not typical at all."

The brand new business isn't even completed yet, but people like Will Harrell, who lives nearby, is already embracing it.

"This particular section has been developing as of late," Harrell said.

Jarrid Messee, The Poor Porker's other owner, said some people didn't quite understand their business idea at first.

"When you say that to people, they don't really know predominantly what you're talking about," Messee said. "So, it's been interesting trying to convey your ideas."

Some of the other ideas including turning the area into an entertainment space, a bar and a pod for food trucks.

Messee said he hopes to have the space completed by June. In the meantime, the food truck is parked for tasty treats.
