It had been a perfect Easter Sunday for Tomika Waldon. She and her daughter, A'Dream, went to church and then to three Easter egg hunts.
Exhausted, the 3-year-old girl fell asleep still in her Easter dress. That's when the bullet came through the wall.
"I opened the bedroom door, turned on the light and I saw a spark go whizzing by my face," said Waldon.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, a man in the apartment next door was cleaning his gun when it accidentally fired twice.
Waldon grabbed her daughter out of bed and stayed low to the ground as she called 911.
"When police arrived, they had guns drawn," she said. "They were ready for whatever."
The bullet went through the apartment wall, across her daughter's room and into the bathroom.
Waldon believes the fact that Adream fell asleep on her bed saved her life.
"If my baby had been in her own bed, the bullet would have hit her," she said. "Now I am thanking God that she was so exhausted and we are blessed to see another day."
The mother and daughter have not slept at their apartment since that night. They've been staying with a relative.
Waldon says she doesn't feel safe and is trying to get enough money together to find a new apartment.
"Dodging bullets at three years old?" she said. "That does not happen, that does not happen."
