Parts of the Bay area are cooling off thanks to afternoon and evening storms.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for most of the Bay area on Tuesday but has since expired.

"The storms are now down to just some lingering showers and occasional lightning strike," said Bay News 9 meterologist Brian McClure. "This summer pattern will be with us all week, meaning mainly late afternoon to evening storms each day, but sunny each morning."

One inch hail was reported in the Citrus Park area. Heavy downpours were being reported in parts of Pinellas County, where there were reports earlier of pea-size hail.

The sea breeze collision took place directly over Tampa Bay, resulting in classic summer thunderstorms. The storms produced very heavy rain.

"The lightning was intense along with gusty winds and even some small pea size hail in some spots. Most reports of small hail came in from southern St. Pete," said Bay News 9 Meteorologist Brian McClure.

Yesterday was the hottest day of the year in Tampa -- before today. It was 95 in Tampa this afternoon before the storms started. This is a new record high, breaks the old record of 94 for this date set way back in 2002.

There's a 30 percent chance of rain tomorrow.
