The name of a fallen Tarpon Springs officer has been added to a memorial honoring those in Pinellas County law enforcement who have died in the line of duty.

A ceremony was held Wednesday morning at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Sheriff's Administration Building in Largo.

The list now includes Tarpon Springs Police Officer Charles Kondek, Jr. who was killed in the line of duty on December 21, 2014. Kondek was fatally shot while responding to a noise complaint outside an apartment building.

“Our hearts won’t ever be the same,” said Tarpon Springs Police Major Barbara Templeton, “however, we’ll honor Charlie and his family’s sacrifice and his name by striving to serve and protect our community as he did with kindness, humor and a warrior spirit.”

Kondek had served with the Tarpon Police Department for 17 years and had previously served with the New York City Police Department for five years. He is survived by his wife and six children.
