A grand opening has been set for the historic - and now renovated - Valerie Theatre in Inverness.

A celebration is scheduled for June 6 at 1 p.m. to mark the reopening of the theater.

Located at 207 Courthouse Square, the building has been under renovations for a little more than a year. Sitting empty since its movie screen went dark in 1987, the historic theater first opened in April 1926.

It played host to silent pictures, vaudeville performances, concerts and even once was used as a screening room by Elvis Presley, who came to Citrus County to shoot a movie in 1962.

Free tours of the theater and the plaza will be offered during the celebration, which will also feature live entertainment and food.
