A domestic dispute turned deadly on Thursday evening following a shooting and a chase in Palmetto.
According to Bradenton police, a man shot his girlfriend in what appeared to be an argument regarding their relationship status and then decided to drive her to the hospital.
While the two were inside the car, the man drove past the hospital and the woman started to panic, police said.
The girlfriend was able to get out of the car and run to the car behind her, which happened to be driven by a Manatee County Sheriff's deputy.
The deputy attempted to chase the boyfriend down but at one point the boyfriend pulled over behind a Marathon Gas Station across from the bridge on U.S. 301 and shot himself.
The girlfriend was taken to a hospital for a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
