The man accused of stealing a car at gunpoint Thursday in Zephyrhills has been taken into custody after an overnight manhunt.

Pasco Sheriff's deputies located 30-year-old Kenneth Michael Brown around 1:15 a.m. along the railroad track near the east end of Pattie Road in Crystal Springs. Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the search.

Deputies said Brown was tired, injured with scrapes and cuts and naked when he was taken into custody. He also was still armed, officials said. Brown was found not far from where the carjacking took place.

He was taken to the Land O' Lakes Detention Center. Brown has been charged with armed car jacking, attempted robbery and armed home invasion, assault with a deadly weapon and armed burglary.

Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco, speaking on Friday, said deputies got Brown off the street before someone got hurt.

"He (Brown) was pointing guns at people," Nocco said during a Friday news conference on the arrest. "Going through that entire area. This guy was a time bomb about to explode and in our minds about to take somebody's life."

Deputies said Brown held a gun to five different people while on the run.

The sheriff's said Brown went to a Zephyrhills home and stole coins and three guns, but the coins were so heavy he left them behind and came back the next day. Once he came back, he was confronted by the owner who chased him.

"One of the victims friends also got involved in the foot pursuit and Mr. Brown again pointed the firearm at his friend," said Sergeant Dean Quinlan.

After that, he ran across the street to an apartment complex and hid in a bush, then he saw a 10-year-old boy.

The boy's father, Rob Mauger, said his son was playing outside when Brown approached.

"He was right over there on the edge of those bushes and Zach was right there when he started to confront Zach," Mauger said.

Brown demanded that the boy let him into his apartment.

"My son was smart enough to come home, shut the door and lock it," said the boy's mother, Deidre Mauger. "He was like, 'someone is chasing me with a gun.'"

Deidre Mauger said Brown then attempted to get inside the home.

"We heard the jiggling of the handle and we were just like, 'what is going on?,'" she said.

While Deidre called for help, Rob went outside to look around. By that time, Brown was gone.

That's when the sheriff said Brown carjacked Marshall Pate in the area of Belmont Place near Eiland Boulevard around 1:30 p.m.

Pate remembers hearing someone come up from behind and ask him for a ride.

"I just kinda looked at him," Pate said. "I wasn't sure what was going on, and then he opened up the back driver side door, slid into the car, one foot still out ... pulled the gun and said, "get in the **** car now!"

Pate said he turned back around to Brown in the car, saw he still had the gun pointed at him, and threw the keys in the car.

Deputies said Brown abandoned the vehicle and took off into a wooded area, firing a shot. The car was later recovered.

Not long after, he forced a woman to take him to Crystal Springs. She dropped him off on the road and deputies were close behind. Deputies said Brown ditched him clothes and kept running.

Eventually a tip came in.

“The person wasn’t giving us the location of the area but basically saying theres a specific area out there where people are known to hide out, where people are known to frequent,” said Sergeant Chad Tadlock.

Deputies followed the railroad tracks using K9 officers and night vision. They found Brown hiding under a bridge, naked but still holding his gun.

The sheriff's office said Brown was bitten by the dog and bruised when they found him. They believe he was on methamphetamine and likely was up for days.

Brown has 22 arrests in Pasco County, including grand theft auto and several violent offenses. HE is being hold on $610,000 bail.

No one was injured.
