Ten thousand dollars can go a long way to bringing the message against driving while distracted to Tampa Bay commuters. That's what Power Design has pledged to give to the non profit, End Distracted Driving, when 1,000 people sign their Safe Driving Pledge.

Michelle Beckart, Operations Training Supervisor with the company signed the pledge and says her family has already taken notice.

"My son is five and he's getting to the point where he's like, 'mommy, you're not on your phone while driving,'" said Beckart. "They're talking about it even in his school."

Distracted driving isn't just texting or talking on the phone. Eating, drinking, even changing the radio station takes a driver's eyes off the road.

Statistics show that in the five seconds it takes to reach for the phone to check a text, a vehicle travels the length of a football field.

Power Design Human Resources Director, Marlene Velez says the company-wide effort has changed her personal behavior as well.

"Every single time I'm even about to change the radio station I think twice that I'm going to look away from the wheel for a second," said Velez. "So I think it's already made an impact on me personally and I hope it does the same for our employees."
