An Allegiant Air flight from St. Petersburg to Niagara Falls, N.Y. made an unscheduled detour Thursday morning.
Flight 894 left St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport at 7:25 a.m. and was diverted to Sanford a short time after take-off.
The plane landed safely at the Orlando Sanford International Airport just before 8:30 a.m. Passengers were moved to another plane and were on their way by 10 a.m.
Officials with Allegiant said an operational decision to swap the aircraft to avoid further delays in Niagara Falls.
The incident was the latest in several mishaps for the airline in recent days.
A flight from St. Pete was canceled Tuesday due to an unspecified maintenance issue. The Las Vegas-based airline has canceled about 15 flights in the last week. All of the flights were rescheduled.
On June 18, an Allegiant plane heading to Pittsburgh was forced to make an emergency landing in St. Petersburg due to pressurization problems.
That was Allegiant's second emergency landing at the airport in June.
"The safety of our passengers and crew is always our number one priority at Allegiant," airline officials said in an email response. "For the inconvenience, passengers are receiving $50 dollars off vouchers."
