A Winter Haven motorcyclist died Thursday night after he was involved in a crash with another motorcycle.

The crash happened at 9:45 p.m. on Berkley Road near Denton Avenue in Auburndale.

Michael Liebam, 23, of Winter Haven, was riding a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle north on Berkley Road at a high rate of speed when he crashed into the back of a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle that was also northbound, deputies said.

William Scott, 30, was driving the 2006 Suzuki at the time, and Deion Folk, 24, was riding on the back. The force of the impact threw all three men from their motorcycles.

Liebam, who was wearing a helmet at the time, was taken to Lakeland Regional Health Center, where he died from his injuries.

Deputies say neither Scott nor Folk were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. They were both taken to Lakeland Regional Health Center. Folk sustained critical injuries, while Scott was treated and released.

Deputies said excessive speed appears to be a factor in the crash, and that they don't know if impairment was a factor.

Berkley Road was shut down for about four hours after the crash.

The investigation continues.
