Here's what you need to know for today's weather in the Bay area:

Today has been a day of heavy rain and flooding, and more heavy rain is possible overnight. Parts of Pinellas County have already received 6 inches of rain.

A front is north of Florida while surface high pressure remains across the southern peninsula. This leads to a southwest to west wind 10 to 15 mph with higher gusts. There is a risk of rip currents at the beaches again tomorrow.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms redeveloping in the Gulf of Mexico and moving onto the coast in the morning.

Low temperatures will be in the mid-70s inland to the low 80s along the coast.

With deep moisture associated with a trough of low pressure and a persistent onshore wind, showers and thunderstorms are likely tomorrow.

It will be mostly cloudy with a 70 percent chance of rain. Some heavy rain is possible.

High temperatures will be in the upper 80s tomorrow afternoon.

Sunday will be partly cloudy with a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the upper 80s to 90 degrees. Morning lows will be in the upper 70s.

Next week the onshore pattern continues with the surface high pressure to the south and a weak surface trough along the east coast of the U.S. it will be partly cloudy with a 40 percent to 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms each day.

Street flooding reported in St. Petersburg

Street flooding has been reported in some parts of St. Petersburg, including:

  • Ninth Street N at 22nd Avenue N and 62nd Avenue N
  • U.S. 19 at 39th Avenue N
  • Beach Drive and 11th Avenue NE
  • 50th Avenue N and Fifth Street N
  • Snell Isle neighborhood

Traffic reporter Chuck Henson said drivers should not try to drive through roads that are covered with water.

"Any of the roadways that are normally prone to gathering water are going to be that way today, and then some," he said.

Henson said that drivers should not use their flashers when driving on the interstate, and that drivers who think conditions are so bad that flashers are needed should have already pulled over by that point.
