A Tampa police officer was involved in a hit-and-run late Thursday.

According to police, the crash happened on Interstate 75 just south of Big bend Road.

Police said the suspects' car, a gold 4-door sedan changed lanes in front of the cruiser, nearly hitting it.

The officer steered to the outside shoulder to avoid a collision. He lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and hit a treeline.

The two cars never collided but police are still calling the crash a hit-and-run.

The suspect never stopped and police are searching for the vehicle.
