A 14-year-old boy is in custody in a hit-and-run accident involving a toddler in St. Petersburg.

At about 10:57 a.m., police responded to 630 28th Avenue South.

D'andre Bush Jr., 3, was riding his bike in a nearby alley accompanied by his mother, when he was struck by a silver van.

Police said the driver of the van stopped momentarily after the accident, but then drove off when confronted by the mother.

The child was transported by ambulance to All Children's Hospital where it was determined that he was suffering from abrasions and he was later treated and released.

Police tracked down the van shortly after the accident parked at the registered owner's home address. Police said after interviewing the teen's mother, it was determined he had taken her van without permission, drove it home after the accident and then fled the area on foot.

He eventually returned home and was taken into custody for leaving the scene of an accident involving injury and for no valid driver's license.
