The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is trying to determine what happened to a man found dead at a Lithia cemetery.

According to deputies, the body was found at 2 p.m. Monday in the Fellowship Cemetery at 10232 State Road 674, which is adjacent to the Fellowship Church.

The man was found with injuries to his upper body, according to deputies. The case is being investigated as a homicide.

A man visiting a relative's grave spotted the body near the back of the cemetery. A dark-colored Humvee-style SUV also was found at the cemetery.

The ungated cemetery has been at the location for about a century, said church attorney Scott Fitzpatrick.

"(It's) bizarre," Fitzpatrick said. "I've lived here in this area my entire live and never seen anything like this."

The victim's identity has not been released as of yet.
