A 42-year-old construction worker had to be rescued Tuesday morning in Clearwater after his leg became trapped by a concrete pipe.

According to Clearwater Fire Rescue, the worker was in a construction trench at Pierce Street and South Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue just after 11 a.m. when the accident happened.

Officials said his leg became trapped between a plate tamper and a 42-inch concrete pipe while working.

Rescue crews wedged wood pieces around the plate tamper and the pipe. They were able to extricate the man with hydraulic tools by 11:30 a.m.

The worker, whose name has not been released, was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries to his foot and lower leg.
