The Talbot House in Lakeland says the bad weather is bringing in more people to their shelter and they’re running out of food.

The Talbot House feeds thousands of homeless and less fortunate families, but officials say people avoiding the weather are flooding the shelter, and their having to provide nearly 400 extra meals a day.

“Because of the surplus of people that we’ve seen come in over the last several weeks to get out of the rain,” said Talbot House Development Director, Michelle Card. “So we have nearly doubled our numbers in food as far as servings. So where we would traditionally serve approximately 600 meals a day, now we’re upwards in over 1,000 meals per day.”

One of their main shortages is meat.
