A busy roadway in Largo has reopened after being closed for hours because of an officer-involved crash.

Officials have reopened the intersection of East Bay Drive and Belcher Road following a collision between an officer and a white Dodge challenger on Thursday afternoon.

According to Largo police, the officer was driving east on East Bay Drive through the intersection of Belcher Road with his lights and sirens on in response to a different crash when a woman driving a Dodge challenger was headed north on Belcher Road.

The two collided at the intersection, police said.

The crash happened shortly after 3 p.m., which forced the road to close during rush hour traffic.

The woman was transported to Largo Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The officer was treated and released.

The case remains under investigation.
