Fire Chief Tim Mossgrove is leaving Brooksville and heading south to Polk County.

Mossgrove has been a firefighter for most of his life. His daughter put together a scrapbook for him and it brings back more and more memories every time he turns a page.

"A lot of the good memories are being able to make a difference in the community," Mossgrove said.

Mossgrove joined the Brooksville Fire Department at the age of 19. He worked his way through the ranks and took over as chief in 2006. For 30 years, he has been fighting fires and saving lives in the city.

"You look back at your career and you go wow, I really went through a lot of transition through a lot of those years," he said.

Over the years Mossgrove has built up the department's technology and improved the city's fire insurance rating, but he has also seen his share of tragedy. He'll always remember the 1992 car crash that killed NFL star Jerome Brown, who was from Brooksville.

"It was a traumatic day," Mossgrove said. "It was a sad day for Brooksville that day."

The chief actually started his firefighting career at the age of 16 as a volunteer for another department. He's a third generation fire chief and he said he'll miss Brooksville, but he's ready to move on.

"In life you close one chapter and you open another chapter is what you do," he said.

Mossgrove is heading to Haines City in Polk County where he will take on the job of fire marshal and manager for accreditation.
