Governor Rick Scott is attending a memorial service today for a Panhandle deputy killed in the line of duty.

Okaloosa deputy Bill Myers was shot from behind and killed last week while serving a domestic violence injunction.

Investigators say the 64-year-old deputy was working in Shalimar when multiple bullets struck him in the head and back. The suspect was later killed in a standoff.

According to the Associated Press, Myers, a veteran deputy, had come out of retirement in January to work part-time serving court papers to earn money to take his granddaughter to Walt Disney World.
