A former publicist to David Bowie who lives in St. Pete Beach joins people around the world in mourning the death of the music legend.

Tony Michaelides was hired as Bowie’s publicist during the 1997 Earthling Tour. Michaelides was overwhelmed at the news of Bowie’s death.

"Working with him was one of the most significant, privileged periods of my life,” said Michaelides. “Being a fan was even better.”

Michaelides knew Bowie on and off the stage.

"The perfect kind of epitome of somebody who, for the sake of technology, you couldn't design a pop star to look, be or perform better than this guy," Michaelides said.

The former publicist also worked with artists such as: U2, The Police, Genesis and Whitney Houston. Michaelides says Bowie was one of the easiest artists he ever worked with.

"The thing with Bowie is his humility and his graciousness as a guy," said Michaelides. "I found him funny.”

Bowie’s stellar performance lasted until the very end. His newest album, Blackstar was released days before his death.

Bowie’s record producer reportedly said album and the song “Lazarus” was Bowie’s final farewell.

"It's David Bowie literally in his deathbed saying bye bye to his fans, which in a weird way is still as classy as he's ever been," said Michaelides.

The former publicist says he is sad, but he wants to celebrate Bowie’s life.

“I think wherever he is, he’s looking back on what he’s done. He can certainly feel that he kind of achieved one hell of a life," said Michaelides.
