With a massive blizzard menacing the eastern U.S., travel will be a nightmare throughout the weekend.

Thousands of flights have been canceled and will be canceled during the next couple of days.

Tampa International Airport is seeing its share of cancellations, with more than 50 flights canceled early Friday morning and more canceled and delayed during the rest of the day.

Anyone flying to the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic area likely will see some delays, if not cancellations.

The major storm is expected to create a ripple effect across the country, creating delays and cancellations for connections even if travelers are able to travel for part of their itineraries.

Part of that same line of storms is expected to sweep through the Bay area Friday.

The good news is that the storm has been on the radar for the past few days and many airlines have already canceled flights to the impacted areas.

Airport officials say that hopefully will cut down on problems for travelers.

Still, officials are advising passengers to keep in touch with their airlines before heading to the airport.
