Here's the Tampa Bay area weather forecast for the start of the week:

  • Partly cloudy through morning
  • Highs in the mid 70s around Tampa Bay
  • Northeast wind flow prevailing over the area Monday

Skies will become partly cloudy through morning. Lows will be in the mid 70s around Tampa Bay to near 70 in northern areas.

An upper level trough has been pushing south today into the Gulf of Mexico. With high pressure to the north and Hurricane Matthew well to the southeast, a northeast wind flow will prevail over the area through Monday.

The upper level trough in the Gulf will be one of the main steering mechanisms for Hurricane Matthew into the week as the storm makes a turn to the north over eastern Cuba and toward then likely through the Bahamas.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Matthew, still a powerful category 4 storm, is still moving slowly northwest in the Caribbean.  The strong wind and high seas have been staying over water, but they won't there for much longer. Jamaica and Haiti will see deteriorating conditions sometime Monday.

On Monday, winds will be east-northeast keeping the timing of the storms in the afternoon and evening. With plenty of moisture overhead, rain chances will be high.  Temperatures will be in the upper 80s.

For Tuesday, there will be showers and storms in the afternoon and evening.

The uncertainty in the forecast will increase by Wednesday through the end of next week due to the variable of Matthew's track. The storm will move east of Florida, but how far east, how strong Matthew will be, and how fast Matthew will move will affect the Tampa Bay area's weather.
