Thousands of spectators packed Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach Sunday to watch the Bright House Clearwater SuperBoat national championship.

“Oh it's definitely a rush," said fan Melissa Preiss. "Especially when they're going to come around this corner here and you're going to feel the thunder and the power of the motors."

For some guests, the day was a family affair.

"It's my father’s boat," said Damon Marotta. "He's been doing this since 2003 and has been the driver ever since and I'll drive it later on in life."

Damon was joined by a huge crowd that cheered on his dad and other teams in the races that have brought international attention to the Bay area.
