Tow truck driver hit, killed along I-275 in Tampa

A tow truck driver was hit and killed Sunday morning along Interstate 275, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

• Tow truck driver was assisting a disabled motorist
• Another driver lost control and hit the tow truck driver
• Tow truck driver died at the scene

Danny Hand, 42, of New Port Richey, a driver for Crockett’s Towing and Recovery, was parked on the outside shoulder, troopers said. Hand had his caution lights activated and was assisting a disabled motorist in the outside lane of I-275 southbound.

Another driver, identified as Leandro Corrales Perez, 30, of Tampa, lost control of his car and hit Hand, FHP said.

Hand died at the scene.

Perez was arrested for DUI manslaughter. He was taken to the Orient Road Jail.
