A New Port Richey man was arrested on DUI charges after three people were seriously injured in a crash on Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa. The three car collision shut down the northbound lanes of Dale Mabry at Waters Avenue for almost five hours Wednesday morning.  

Two men and a woman were hospitalized after the accident. 

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Nicholas Billings, 20, was traveling east on Waters Avenue when he ran the red light at Dale Mabry at 5 a.m. His 2009 Toyota Yaris collided with a 2009 Nissan Maxima, driven by Maria Romero, 64.  

Her car was knocked into the path of a 2008 Chevy Tahoe truck -- driven by Nigel Osborne, 48 -- which ended up in the eastbound lanes of Waters Ave. 

Billings and Romero were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa with serious injuries. Osborne was taken to Florida Hospital Carrollwood in serious condition.

Investigators determined Billings was impaired at the time of the crash. He has been charged with DUI serious bodily injury, DUI property damage, and reckless driving.
