A man wanted in connection with an armed home invasion last week has turned himself in, Dade City Police say.

According to the Police Department, Malik Johns, 20, was one of two men involved in a Feb. 5 robbery attempt at 37226 Majestic Oaks Court in Dade City. The two men were carrying a semi-automatic rifle and a electric stun gun when they entered the house, they said.

While inside, Johns and the other alleged intruder, Erick Olascoaga-Cardosa, 19, were confronted by two of the house's occupants. A struggle ensued for the rifle, and shots were fired, injuring Olascoaga-Cardosa.

Johns and Olascoaga-Cardosa then attempted to flee. Olascoaga-Cardosa was caught by the house's occupants and held until police took him into custody. Johns escaped the scene.

Olascoaga-Cardosa was treated at Bayonet Point Hospital for his wounds, then released Feb. 7 and immediately arrested by Dade City Police. He was charged with home invasion robbery with a firearm.

Johns is currently being held at the Land 'O Lakes Detention Center. Police have released no information yet on whether Johns has been charged.
