The owner of a Citrus County alpaca farm says close to 20 animals were killed or injured by three dogs.
However, deputies aren't quite sure that's what happened.
Jean Riley and her family own Alpaca Magic USA in Homosassa. She says two pit bulls and another dog jumped the fence and attacked in the middle of the night.
"It was the worst thing I have ever seen," she said. "Bloodbath. It was just like you are walking through a war zone and seeing the dead bodies."
Riley said the dogs ran off as soon as the family came outside.
"As soon as they saw us they all ran, but what woke me was somebody in front of the house calling their dog," she said.
Seven alpacas were killed or euthanized on the spot and 12 were injured.
"The last field was the worst," Jean said. "The babies were in there. We lost three of the babies."
The family has been in the alpaca business for 20 years, and Riley says nothing like this has happened in all those years.
The sheriff's office investigated the incident, but they're not sure what attacked the alpacas. They didn't find any people with dogs in the area and there have been no other reported attacks.
Riley said she and her family are on edge after the attacks.
"We don't sleep," she said. "We are just waiting for them to come back."
The farm is holding an open house April 2-3 in hopes of trying to get things back to normal. The farm is located at 4920 W Grover Cleveland Blvd. in Homosassa.
