A popular waterfront park in Crystal River is set to be leveled.

Hunters Spring Park will be closed for months starting Monday morning. The plan is to renovate it and work has already started.

There's some good and some bad that comes with the project. The park is getting a facelift, but Stephanie Adams and her family will have to find a new spot to relax until the project is done in September.

"We are going to visit other springs," she said. "There are a whole bunch in Florida, so we are going to like spring hop for a while."

Jeremy Chunat is regular at the park. He's going to switch to boating to stay cool this summer.

"We have plenty of places to swim," he said.

A long list of improvements will be made like more parking, more seating, a new beach, new bathrooms, a new kayak launch, a playground, a boardwalk and much more.

The project has been in the works for a while and is going to cost about $1.5 million.

Not everyone is happy about what's going on. John Beattie and his wife are part-time residents and they want the park to stay the way it is. They stopped by for one last look.

"Kind of got used to it this way and it's going to change, we know that," he said.

The project is expected to be done by September 16th.
