A 96-year-old Seminole man, Ed DuPerry, who plays golf with his friends every Thursday, recently hit a hole-in-one.

  • DuPerry hit his latest hole-in-one at Bardmoor Golf and Tennis Club in Seminole
  • Once a math teacher in Maine, DuPerry moved to Florida when he retired at 55
  • A golfer for 66 years, DuPerry says this was his fourth hole-in-one

"Everybody hollers like a son of a gun," DuPerry said. "Makes you feel good."

One of his friends, Bud O'Brien, jokingly said he thought something bad happened to DuPerry, who's only a few years shy of being a centenarian, when he heard all that hooting and hollering.

"When we were coming down this course the next thing I heard was a great big guffaw. I said, ‘Geez is Ed dropping dead or something?’" said Bud O'Brien. "But it wasn’t, it was Gus came running back, he said, ‘Ed just got a hole-in-one.’ I said, ‘Good Lord, I thought for sure he was finished.'"

DuPerry said that rare shot happened on Mar. 31, at Hole 5, Par 3, on the course at the Bardmoor Golf and Tennis Club in Seminole.

"It’s a beautiful course to play in but tough course," he said. "When I get in the trap, forget it, I don’t get out."

DuPerry has been playing golf for 66-years and said it was his 4th hole-in-one. A fact that impresses his friends.

"Most people don’t even get one in a lifetime," O'Brien said. "So, it was very good. He managed to get his 4th here."

DuPerry grew up in Maine but moved to Florida when he retired from teaching math.

"I retired when I was 55-years-old and I’ve been living like a king ever since," he said. "I love the game. I love these guys I’ve been with now. They’re all good friends."

DuPerry said being social with friends and living an active lifestyle is the secret to his longevity.
