The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office just released the reports that show the moments leading up to the deaths of those three teens in that stolen car.

  • Dominique Battle, Ashaunti Butler and Laniya Miller were killed when their car crashed into a pond at a cemetery
  • Deputies say they were pursuing the girls because they were in a stolen car
  • Parents of two of the girls question the sheriff's office's version of events

Newly released dash cam video shows how the three teens refused to stop when deputies tried to pull them over.

Moments later, radio chatter and dash cam video shows officers in pursuit again, following the teens down the dead end street that leads to a cemetery. Officers are then heard saying the car went into the water.

The radio chatter reveals at one point, investigators thought the teens ran from the car before it went into the water. But once they realized there was someone in the car, reports show deputies tried to rescue the girls.

Deputies said the car was bobbing up and down and was not stable. They said their feet immediately sank in the muddy bottom of the pond. They then made the decision that it was too risky for them to attempt a rescue.

The sheriff initially said the three young girls thought they could cut across the grassy area and make it to 275, not knowing there was a pond in the middle.

Dominique Battle, 16, and Ashaunti Butler and Laniya Miller, both 15, didn't make it out alive. The parents of two of the girls questioned the version of events and they hired an attorney to look into it further.

The attorney for the girls said they've been combing through these reports and the footage and as of now they have no comment.
