Testimony continued Wednesday in the trial of a man accused of crashing a stolen SUV head on into another driver, resulting in that driver's death.

  • Lawyers for Antonio Jones claim Jones was not driving the stolen SUV

Antonio Jones, 20, stands accused of vehicular homicide in the death of Matthew John Smith. Smith died on April 7, 2015 when he crashed head on into a stolen SUV allegedly being driven by Jones.

Five passengers were in the stolen SUV when it crashed. Some of those passengers have already testified that Jones was the driver.

But Jones' defense argues that some of the passengers are cousins and also members of a gang. They contend that those passengers are trying to cover up who was really driving the SUV.

In court, one of those passengers, Kevonte Isaac, identified Jones as the driver. However, in a sworn statement to police right after the crash, Isaac gave a different description of the driver’s hair and clothes.

Friends of Smith attending the trial expressed concern about the nature of the witness testimony on Wednesday.

“It’s really hard to take," said friend Ty Salmon. "It’s really hard to get a good feeling if they are telling the truth or not. It’s a little shaky.”

Jones' attorneys are still deciding whether to call Jones himself to the witness stand.
