To help kids learn while they play, Hernando County educators have set up what they call a "learning trail."

A first for the county, the trail has 10 stations, or stops, and each stop offers an activity or lesson to learn from.

  • Designed to help young students have fun while learning
  • Alphabet, counting games sprinkled throughout 10 stations
  • Officials hope to add another on opposite side of county soon

Kids, including 5-year-old Caylee Bugge, at Delta Woods Park in Spring Hill are giving it a thumbs up.

“You get to do cool stuff,” she said. “I’m counting when I’m jumping."

Other kids, like Danica King, 7, enjoy working on their ABCs.

“It makes me learn how to spell words and write them and sound them out,” Danica said.

Angela Bonfardino is with the United Way of Hernando County. Along with other members of the community, the United Way created the trail. According to Bonfardino, the organization would like to arrange for something similar to be installed on the east side of the county before the fall.

“It's very cool,” she said.
